Celebrating the Life of Nancy Bloomer Deussen NACUSAsf presents a pair of new music concerts February 8 & 16 in memory of our local branch founder, Nancy Bloomer Deussen, whose music and creative drive have had an immense influence on many musicians, especially in the SF Bay Area.

The programs include the world premiere of For Chris, recently composed by Nancy upon the death of her son, only a few months before her own passing. Also on the concerts is a variety of music by member composers. Brian Holmes will play his suite of neo-baroque dances on the horn with cellist Zhou Yih. Violinist / violist Be’eri Moalem will play Tzeva Adom, a piece about Israeli rocket alarms from his 2016 album, Exile. Multi-instrumentalist 12-year-old Kashi Akash will premiere his Mystic March for two violas on the 16th as well as a pop-influenced virtuoso piano piece Kaleidoscope on the 8th. John Bilotta presents A Clear Midnight, a song setting by Walt Whitman with soprano Sarita Cannon. Greg A. Steinke’s Santa Fe Trail Echoes will be played by Anne Lerner-Wright, on solo cello. Sheli Nan will narrate the Biblical story of Judith with viola accompaniment. Deon Nielsen Price will offer a selection from his one-act opera, The Light of Man. Davide Verotta will play his Ciaconna for solo piano. Gary Friedman’s atonal Flute and Onions for Wind Quintet and narrator will be performed by Mimi Braverman, flute; Gary Friedman, oboe; Shelley Hodgen, clarinet; Jay Williams, horn, Karen Wright, bassoon and Harriet Spiegel, narrator. Allan Crossman will play his set of character pieces Nine Lives on solo piano, with subtitles such as Cat 1, Cat 2, Peccadillo, Deliquescence, Opalescence, Phosphorescence, Gliding. Jacob E. Goodman presents his Intermezzi inspired by Brahms, performed by pianist Libby Kardonchik.
